She was 75 or so. She was standing ahead of me in a drugstore line the other day. The pharmacist wrapped up her prescription and waited patiently while the woman put on her reading glasses and scrawled out her check with agonizing slowness.
``Now,'' the older woman said as she handed over the check, ``Do I have to take this every day?''
``Every day,'' the pharmacist said.
``What happens if I take them every other day?''
The pharmacist spoke clearly and forcefully. ``You have to take this every day -- not every other day, not every three days, but every day, faithfully. It won't work unless you take it every day. …
