Fed: Swell new use for old drug has scientists excitited

A team of Canberra scientists who last year identified the proteins responsible for
viral swelling .. have now discovered a drug that targets them.

It's expected to be useful in treating viral infections like Ross River virus .. dengue
fever and influenza.

Professor SURESH MAHALINGAM and colleagues from the University of Canberra .. discovered
that an existing drug for kidney disease targets the specific proteins they identified
in their study.
